Oodles And Oodles

Last night, at about 8pm, my boyfriend, my computer-programming houseguest and I sat down to a meal of shrimp roe noodles in miso broth, topped with spicy carnitas, shelled edamame and chopped scallions. By midnight, Noodlr was born: the noodle soup idea generator.

This engine has an agenda: to showcase noodle soup as the ideal one-dish meal format. Noodles are served in a broth that not only warms and soothes, but acts as a poaching liquid to reheat or even cook whatever ingredients you wish to add; in return, the ingredients infuse the soup with extra flavor. What could be more nourishing, flexible or efficient? Why sandwich counters in this country do brisker lunch business than noodle shops, I’ll never know.

Try it. The ingredients database is still growing and far from exhaustive, but we’re aiming for overall harmony rather than absurdity. We prefer ingredients accessible to the widest possible audience, as well as toppings that don’t themselves take five hours to prepare.

Please leave your comments and ingredient suggestions. Thanks!

What a fine idea! My forays into cooking as a teen began with making instant ramen and adding whatever looked good in the fridge for my after-school meal.

Mmm, all of this is making me crave a noodle bowl!

Michele, are we free to send blog traffic to this clever noodle bowl generator?
Amanda added this comment on October 08 2008 at 2:52 pm
Thanks Hui Wen, I’m definitely going to add some of those. I like the smoked chicken and the tahini. However, I thought hokkien noodles were a cooked dish…

Amanda, of course!
Michele Humes added this comment on October 09 2008 at 7:07 am
Oh, I meant those especially thick egg noodles that they use to make the hokkien noodles dish. I guess they’re not too different from regular egg noodles though.:-)

A little fish sauce
Mustard greens
Fresh fish
Your choice of garnishes

You should make a twitter version of this.
Rob added this comment on October 28 2008 at 3:08 pm
Thanks again for all the praise and support.

Nancy, I thought about SPAM, but worried about backlash. People are always getting worked up about SPAM (edible and inedible kinds)! I do like it, though.

Rob, I am thinking about making a blog sidebar widget. The twitter thing might be a bit beyond me, though.

i’m Chinese, in north-west china, all the thing we eat is noodles, noodles and still noodles…hahaha
no that much various flavors, but the simple noodles we eat is totally terrific!

all we need are :
good quality wheat,to make the most semitransparent, unsticky, smooth, pliable noodles
chinese special stewing or braising pork
egg pancake
chopped up carrot, potato…
chili oil,pepper,vinegar,garlic stem…
the soul of chinese noodles is about the flovoring substances

i don’t know how to tell you more details, it’s really different cooking^^
